Burbage Police Newsletter And Update For May 2026.
Hello Resident,
We hope you are keeping well. Below is our monthly Newsletter for May and a quick update as to what we have been up to since our last update. Our crime reduction catalogue is also attached to this email.
Further work completed around our schools regarding road safety messages. We have put up signage at Sketchley Primary and Burbage Infants and Juniors. There will be further work in the area and with the schools throughout the year. This is all part of the work we do to try to make a difference to the area. Ultimately, we need parents/motorists support in keeping these areas safe.
A big thank you to Mrs Barwell and the children at Burbage Infants with our ongoing efforts to make the area safe for children.
We have also completed our third and final assembly at Hastings High School where we completed assemblies discussing Anti-social behaviour, following a recent increase in reports. Years 7,8 and 9 completed, so they are fully aware of what anti-social behaviour is and what the consequences are. Thanks to Hastings for supporting and getting us booked in to deliver this important work.
We attended the Burbage Infants spring fair, with our crime prevention table. A big thanks as always to our Police volunteer Jackie for all the help she provides us with, and to the Burbage Inf/Jnr's PTFA for organising a great community event. It was really well attended and a fun day. Lots of conversations regarding crime prevention and good to see some familiar faces.
Burbage Police Newsletter May 2026
Issue: Spring Update May 2026
PC Davidson PCSO Stretton Sgt Cross
Welcome to my monthly update for the residents and communities of the Burbage. Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA). This newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.
We have listened to you and the concerns you raised and prioritised the following: Below are our new priorities which we will be actioning this month. Below are our new priorities for the next few months.
Priority 1: Burglary
You Said – Burglaries of homes continue to be a concern in the area, this coupled with the fact that Easter and Spring half term will see people going away leaving their homes empty and an opportunity for criminals to take advantage presents a real risk for our community.
Priority 2: Anti-social Behaviour
You Said – Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) around local parks and streets in Burbage is a cause for concern, you noted incidents of cannabis/drug use, assault, bullying, criminal damage and general rowdiness. Concerns are that with the Easter holidays and other school breaks approaching young people will have more time on their hands and the warmer weather and lighter nights will encourage more people out that is likely to lead to wider ASB issues.
Priority 3: Vehicle Crime
You Said – Theft of tools from vans and theft of high powered/high end motor cars are crimes that our community have raised as a continued concern. As the weather improves, windows being left open present opportunities.
#WeDid - What we are doing
Burglary - Residential Burglaries will remain a priority for the next 3 months. Your local community team will be working hard to raise awareness with residents on the need to take steps prior to holidays to ensure your home appears lived in. The use of light times and support from friends and neighbours to ensure tell-tale signs like bins being left out for protracted periods or post building up are not an invitation to criminals to take advantage. Where offences are reported local officers will work closely with the detectives to ensure that community intelligence and CCTV opportunities are maximised to provide the greatest opportunities of identifying the offenders. We will ensure that our patrol plan ensures that officers patrol the right places at the right time maximising our opportunities to disrupt and catch offenders. During April, reports from Sketchley Road, School Close on the 8th/9th of April and then 2 reports from Victoria Road on the 16th of April. Entry via smashing back patio glass, untidy searches whilst resident were out. Items such as jewellery and cash targeted. We have received some good news regarding prison sentences for those involved in residential burglary earlier in the year, but please continue to review your home security. School holidays can see an increase in this type of crime, so with the May holidays and Summer holidays approaching, please be mindful of this. Please hide/remove items such as jewellery and ensure vehicles are secure before you go on holiday. Please consider home alarms, steering wheel locks and ensure someone you trust is checking on your property.
Anti-social Behaviour – We have recognised the concerns of the community and have made it our priority to tackle this issue. We have lots planned on the run up to the Easter break which will include assemblies to be held at Hastings High School discussing what ASB, the impact it has on the community and the consequences if caught by police. We would encourage local residents to report issues to us and share information and CCTV, we have an excellent information sharing system with the school that will continue over the holidays and enables prompt identification of perpetrators. Over the coming weeks, we intend to increase our patrols in the area, use social media to engage with the community on this issue and actively target individuals identified as being involved. During April, we have seen an increase in incidents involving youths. We have identified those involved and completed work such as home visits, speaking with parents, completing assemblies at the high school and using the anti-social behaviour incremental approach. Incidents such as repeatedly booting front doors, causing damage in the area and general bad behaviour whilst out and about have been reported to us. If you are a victim of this type of crime, please report immediately and provide any evidence you have. We will work with local schools, residents and businesses to identify and deal with those involved.
Vehicle Crime - Over the coming months we seek to increase awareness across the community of things they can do or consider to prevent them becoming a victim of this type of crime, this will include several social media messages and crime safety events being held across the beat. Our patrols targeting this type of offending will continue and where offences occur, local officers will seek to support the investigators by visiting the areas and looking at CCTV and other evidential opportunities to maximise the likelihood of identifying an offender. During April, We had a report of a stolen VW Golf where suspects broke into the property to get keys on School Close on the 9th of April. Other vehicle related reports include damage to vehicles and suspicious activity. Whilst the number of vehicles stolen in April from Burbage is very low, please ensure you are protecting your home, using steering locks and RFID wallets (keyless vehicles). Criminals will target high performance and/or keyless vehicles. If you own this type of vehicle, please take action to secure your vehicle. Please park on your driveway and ask a neighbour of family member to help keep an eye on your vehicle if you are going on holiday without it. Vehicles that are left just sat around for a period of time will draw the attention of car thieves. Don't make yourself an easy target.
